The Yiddish Policemen's Union - Michael Chabon Just a wonderful, wonderful book about a wonderfully strange place filled with wonderfully strange people. After finishing it, I had to give it to my brother-in-law, a book geek, whom I just knew would love it. And he did.

You can think of reading the right books at the right time in your life. Well, here was the right one for me. A cure for depression it was. For how heavy can your personal burdens be compared to the plight of this poor people, transplanted to Alaska, eternally longing for a homeland and being shafted by everyone up to POTUS. Yet despite this, despite all the hope-killing desperation of their situation, they cannot escape their essential nature. That of being Jewish, and funnily so in a Jacky Mason sort of way. What a treat for whoever is yet to read this book. Make sure you start after a really really bad day.
